Bonjour!
As I start designing, buying, and DIYing things for my new apartment, I thought I’d make it a little series for this blog. I know home decor isn’t my usual thing, but it is something that I absolutely adore. Since this is what will be consuming my life for the next couple of months, why not document the process through mood boards, right? Right.
The items on the board won’t be exacts since I will be DIYing a good bit of my decor.
This is what I have so far (expect lots from Ikea):
- Tribeca Sophie Tufted Bed in White. While shopping for beds, I saw this and fell in love. I love that it’s a white “leather” and tufted so it’s not too traditional. I actually bought this while it was on sale, so I would recommend if you plan on getting this and have some time, wait. And use a coupon.
- Here’s exhibit A of DIYing. I already own a down comforter with a white duvet cover and shams. Because I love pillows, my plan is to have 2 Euro shams in a grey pattern fabric (I will blog the making of my shams/pillow covers), my 2 white standard shams, 2 standard shams in the same grey pattern fabric as the Euros, and a sequined turquoise pillow (DIY). I’ve already purchased the fabric and will be making envelope style shams/covers.
- The Ikea Malm Dressing Table and Alex Drawer Unit with 9 Drawers. The bathroom in my new apartment doesn’t have much storage, and I have a lot of beauty products and need a place to store them. I plan on having two Alex drawer units since I do have so much stuff. On my vanity, I’m thinking a beauty compartment for everyday things and apothecary-ish jars for brush storage because they have lids and will keep dust out. Maybe a mirror, but otherwise keeping it very clean and minimal.
- The Ikea Kivik One-Seat Section in Orrsta Light Gray. I love to read, so I love having a place to read. I want something comfy but still in line with the decor. I’ve heard these seats are very comfy, so I’m looking forward to curling up with a good book in my Kivik seat.
- The Ikea Nordli Nightstand. I love the design, and I’m getting two. No idea what lamps I’m getting yet though.
- The Ikea Songe Mirror. I need a mirror and wanted a full length one. It goes with the decor and looks nice and is huge so it won out. It’s also the piece I’m probably most excited about.
- The Ikea Hemnes 8-Drawer Dresser in White Stain. I like the clean lines and the more storage the better. I plan on changing the knobs to something else. The black doesn’t work for me.
- DIY #2. I saw this on Pinterest and thought it would be a cool idea above my bed. Knowing me, I’d never settle on/be happy with a painting or photo. So I thought I’d save some money by gathering pictures from around my house and making a photo heart. It s a great way to decorate while making the piece personal.
- Flowers always make a room feel alive and whether they’re fake or real, I plan on having white flowers in my bedroom. On the dresser with my candle.
- I plan on putting my vanity and Alex drawers in this nook next to my closet. For decor in that area, I was thinking either a Chanel or Prada sign. Chanel is my favorite designer brand, and I’ve always loved the font of the Prada logo. I also thought about putting that sign on the wall in front of a striped ribbon design like this, but that will depend on lazy I’m being.
Well, that’s all I have so far. I’ll keep you posted on my progress.
