YSL Rouge Pur Couture Lipsticks Review

Bonjour! Rather than stating the obvious, why don’t we jump right into the review? Yes? Great!

Today, I’ll be review two of the YSL Rouge Pur Couture lipsticks. These are $36 and can be purchased here or here.

This color is #9 Rose Stiletto. Great everyday neutral.

And this one is #19 Fuchsia. Bright bold fuchsia pink.

Here are swatches. On the left is #19 and on the right is #9.

What I liked: What’s not to like about YSL lipsticks? They’re smooth. They’re pigmented. They’re pretty. They make you feel fancy due to the gorgeous gold YSL packaging. These are both colors that I think work across a large spectrum of skin tones.

What I didn’t: As with all YSL lipsticks I’ve ever used, these don’t have much staying power. Now, there will always be a little hint of color until you actually wash it off, but YSL lipsticks will rub off on anything that gets close to your lips. But they’re so pretty and make you feel so fancy using them, you accept it and move on.

I will always buy and use YSL lipsticks. I love them.

Until next time.

Mac Haul!

I recently went on a little work trip and while there, stopped by a Mac counter. I wanted to see the Wash and Dry collection in person and just shop around a little bit. This is what I went home with.

From the Wash and Dry collection, I only bought 1 item from the collection, I only went on with this one item. It’s the Tinted Lipglass in Hot/Cold. It’s such a gorgeous color. It’s labeled a true red, but it has too much berry in it to be a true red, in my opinion. I love that I can layer it to make it sheerer or more opaque. It’s glossy when it’s more opaque and just a nice wash of color when on the sheer side. Basically, I’m in love.

From the permanent line, I bought the Technakohl Liner in Take The Plunge. One of my favorite things to do in the summer is have a neutral, shimmery eye with a colorful liner. I think it’s so fun and so pretty. This color happens to be a deep ocean blue color. Almost like a jade color on my skin tone. It’s very pretty, very creamy, and gorgeous. The lady at the Mac counter said it’s one of a few colors that she’s seen literally look amazing on every skin tone. I was her guinea pig because she likes to see how different colors look on different skin tones so both of my hands were covered in new eyeshadow, eyeliner, and lip stick swatches. It was fun. I saw Take the Plunge on my hand and fell in love. I knew it’d be my go-to summer/fun liner.

Well, that’s it for this haul. Have you bought any fun makeup items for the summer? If so, let me know in the comments!

Until next time,

Mini Ulta Haul!

I recently placed a small order on Ulta.com, and I figured I’d show you what I got since it was still in the box and not scattered about my house.

  • Benefit Benebalm. I absolutely love the color of Benetint. It’s a gorgeous Rose color and is just pigmented enough to look natural and not like you’re wearing anything. Well, being that it’s summer, why wouldn’t I want that Benetint color in a hydrating lip balm? Btw, if you spend $45 in Benefit products, you get a free gift!
  • Real Techniques Blush Brush. I love the Real Techniques brushes. I didn’t have this one, so I bought it. That’s pretty much the only reason. I have a blush brush, but I didn’t have this one. That’s it. Don’t judge me.
  • Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder in Transparent 001. I wanted a new setting powder that would help matify my very oily face but not look cakey. I heard this was a good one and at $3.99 (on sale right now), I figured I’d give it a whirly and see how I liked it.
  • Benefit Rockateur Box Blush. I’ve had my eye on this blush since it came out. I’ve always thought it was gorgeous and looked good on everyone I saw it on, so I broke down and bought it. It is just as pretty as I expected it to be, and I’m super excited about it.

Well, that’s it for my Ulta haul. I’ve been focusing on decorating so I haven’t been buying much beauty stuff which is good considering I don’t have that much more room in my drawers for beauty stuff. That won’t stop me from buying it, but that will at least force me to clean out my drawers more often since I’m refusing to buy more furniture. #adulting

Until next time.

Tray Chic

Again, long time, no see! I hate that I haven’t been blogging, but with moving, a new job, and settling in to a new city, I haven’t been doing much of anything else lately. I’m still decorating my home, but I wanted to show you guys this because I’m loving the way this area is turning out.

I was contacted by One King’s Lane and asked to show how I decorate with trays. Well, I had just so happened to get this tray set up so I figured why not show this, right!? Right.

This is part of my beauty section in my room where I have 2 Ikea Alex Drawer Units and my Ikea Malm Dressing Table. I don’t have much storage in my new place so I’ve been utilizing space I do have with storage furniture. Those Alex drawers are full of beauty, hair, accessory, toiletries, and medicine. But for me, the purpose of having drawers is to keep the top clear of clutter. Why have everything on top if you can put it in the drawers, am I right? There’s just enough for decor, but not so much it looks like a big ole mess.

Here’s a closer picture of my tray. I got this one from Amazon, and I love it. It holds all of my perfumes nicely and reminds me that I need to purge old ones that I don’t wear to make room for new ones. Double purpose!

I have several other trays throughout my place. I love using them as a catchall for things like remotes, mail, etc. You end up having the same amount of stuff. It just looks neater. Ideal of those lazy people like me who don’t actually want to be bothered with decluttering/purging. Just put it in the tray and call it a day!

If you’re looking for some cool trays, One King’s Lane has some cool ones you should check out. They also have a video you can check out for some inspiration.

Now if I could only find someone who will serve me breakfast in bed on a tray…

Until next time.

P.S. All opinions in this post are my own, and I have not been compensated for this post.

P.S.S. That glitter chevron canvas is one I made myself. If you’d like to know how I made it, let me know in the comments!

YSL Volume Effet Faux Cils Mascara Review

Long time, no see, huh? As I said in my last post, I moved and that has been consuming my life. I have some blog posts in mind on all that stuff. I just haven’t had time to actually write them. Putting together furniture takes longer than I thought. No matter. Here’s a new beauty review for you guys! Yay!

Today, I’ll be reviewing the revamped YSL Volume Effet Faux Cils Mascara. This isn’t a new mascara. The formula has just been “remastered,” whatever that means.

Things you may not know about me: I am a mascara girl. I will, in a heartbeat, walk out the door for any event with nothing but mascara and lip balm on. I think my eyes are my best facial feature, so I like to make sure they always look bright and awake and pretty.  So I was incredibly excited to try this mascara out.

What I liked: It smells really good. Like really good. Mascaras are not something that I’ve thought of as good smelling, but this mascara smells really good. It’s also great at separating and covering my lashes. And it doesn’t make them crunchy or hard. And even though it isn’t waterproof, it lasted all day and mostly stayed in place. I also really liked that is apparently has vitamins that help protect and strengthen your lashes, which is nice.

Here’s a pic of my eyes, one with mascara, one without.

YSL before and after

What I didn’t: I didn’t get much volume. I didn’t get that faux lash effect. For me, it’s more like a good everyday mascara, rather than a va-va-voom lashes mascara. Like they look good, but they don’t look as false as when I wear the Falsies Mascara or something like that. It’s also a little wet for my liking.

Overall, I’ll continue to use it, but at $32, I will definitely have to think about whether I’d purchase it.

Look out for more reviews and more in my apartment decor series.

Until next time.

A Pretty Little Bedroom – Apartment Decor Series

Screen Shot 2015-02-03 at 12.05.25 AM

As I start designing, buying, and DIYing things for my new apartment, I thought I’d make it a little series for this blog. I know home decor isn’t my usual thing, but it is something that I absolutely adore. Since this is what will be consuming my life for the next couple of months, why not document the process through mood boards, right? Right.

The items on the board won’t be exacts since I will be DIYing a good bit of my decor.

This is what I have so far (expect lots from Ikea):

  1. Tribeca Sophie Tufted Bed in White. While shopping for beds, I saw this and fell in love. I love that it’s a white “leather” and tufted so it’s not too traditional. I actually bought this while it was on sale, so I would recommend if you plan on getting this and have some time, wait. And use a coupon.
  2. Here’s exhibit A of DIYing. I already own a down comforter with a white duvet cover and shams. Because I love pillows, my plan is to have 2 Euro shams in a grey pattern fabric (I will blog the making of my shams/pillow covers), my 2 white standard shams, 2 standard shams in the same grey pattern fabric as the Euros, and a sequined turquoise pillow (DIY). I’ve already purchased the fabric and will be making envelope style shams/covers.
  3. The Ikea Malm Dressing Table and Alex Drawer Unit with 9 Drawers. The bathroom in my new apartment doesn’t have much storage, and I have a lot of beauty products and need a place to store them. I plan on having two Alex drawer units since I do have so much stuff. On my vanity, I’m thinking a beauty compartment for everyday things and apothecary-ish jars for brush storage because they have lids and will keep dust out. Maybe a mirror, but otherwise keeping it very clean and minimal.
  4. The Ikea Kivik One-Seat Section in Orrsta Light Gray. I love to read, so I love having a place to read. I want something comfy but still in line with the decor. I’ve heard these seats are very comfy, so I’m looking forward to curling up with a good book in my Kivik seat.
  5. The Ikea Nordli Nightstand. I love the design, and I’m getting two. No idea what lamps I’m getting yet though.
  6. The Ikea Songe Mirror. I need a mirror and wanted a full length one. It goes with the decor and looks nice and is huge so it won out. It’s also the piece I’m probably most excited about.
  7. The Ikea Hemnes 8-Drawer Dresser in White Stain. I like the clean lines and the more storage the better. I plan on changing the knobs to something else. The black doesn’t work for me.
  8. DIY #2. I saw this on Pinterest and thought it would be a cool idea above my bed. Knowing me, I’d never settle on/be happy with a painting or photo. So I thought I’d save some money by gathering pictures from around my house and making a photo heart. It s a great way to decorate while making the piece personal.
  9. Flowers always make a room feel alive and whether they’re fake or real, I plan on having white flowers in my bedroom. On the dresser with my candle.
  10. I plan on putting my vanity and Alex drawers in this nook next to my closet. For decor in that area, I was thinking either a Chanel or Prada sign. Chanel is my favorite designer brand, and I’ve always loved the font of the Prada logo. I also thought about putting that sign on the wall in front of a striped ribbon design like this, but that will depend on lazy I’m being.

Well, that’s all I have so far. I’ll keep you posted on my progress.

Until next time.

Boots No7 Protect and Perfect Advanced Serum Review

Sorry. The moms tore into this before I got the chance to take a photo. I had to steal it back from her just to get this one.

Today, I wanted to review the Boots No7 Protect and Perfect Advanced Serum. Actually, my mom reviewed it. I don’t use any anti-aging products, so I really can’t review them.

So my mom so graciously offered to take that sample off my hands and tell me what she thought.

So here goes:

What she liked: “It feels really nice. It’s smooth and doesn’t leave my skin feeling sticky. Spreads easily. Soaks in quickly.”

What she didn’t: “It actually dried my skin out. I noticed a couple of dry patches, and the days I used this have been warmer so it can’t be the weather. I stopped using it, and my dry patches went away.”

All in all, she would not continue to use this product. Maybe she just had a bad reaction to it, but with normal skin, it shouldn’t have dried her skin out.

Well, that’s all folks. I have no idea what my next post will be so be prepared to be surprised!

Until next time.
